good AM3+ motherboard with supported USB 3.0 chipset available - impossible mission?

Hi folks,
good AM3+ motherboard with supported USB 3.0 chipset
I was searching for hours, many hours - but found nothing! The usb 3.0 chipset support (asmedia, etron, ...) seems to be a big problem under linux.

The prices for the AMD-CPUs are so low, I would like to set up a new box - but with a motherboard fully supported.

Any hints? Your help is appreciated!

I have an Asus M5A97 motherboard which has USB 3.0 support.

I haven't had any problems with it.

Just make sure that graphics card isn't AMD hd 5000 series & under because AMD dropped support for that series

I use an ASUS M5A99X Evo and it works fine.

@EDDY1: The HD5000 series is still supported, AMD dropped support for HD2/3/4000.

My bad I meant under 5000

Havent checked the asmedia stuff, IIRC etron USB 3.0 controller chips didnt work with linux back in 2011. AFAIK that has been fixed with newer kernels.

I've got a NEC D720200F1USB 3.0 controller that works with USB 2.0 devices. I dont have any USB 3.0 devices to test with.

Just avoid the nasty 8XX chipset boards with onboard video, and get a 9XX chipset board without onboard video.

Mobo M4 A89GTD PRO/USB3
It works well but I use nvidia 9400GT video card.
When I built computer thought I needed video card so bought it, but if I did it again I would do a little more research before buying mobo.

You got caught going both ways. Paid extra for a M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 where part of the higher cost was due to 128MB of onboard video memory for the IGP, and you bought a 9400GT (which is very similar in performance) as well.

Thanks for all the answers! I guess the stuff I've read in the internet was a little bit outdated - I searched around again and it seems that the problematic chipsets asmedia and etron are supported in the "newer" kernels. Now I'm spoilt for choice - asus, asrock or gigabyte? I guess I'll go with asus, maybe the M5A97...

Thanks again!

I personally prefer the gigabyte AMD boards, but I wouldnt pay much more for them than the asus AMD boards of similar level.

BTW, if you have a major preference for asus, and care enough about USB 3.0 to worry about it, then you might do better to get a M5A97 R2.0 over the original M5A97. The R2.0 boards have 4 x USB 3.0 ports, 2 with pinouts to for front panel USB 3.0 ports (original M5A97 only has 2 x USB 3.0 ports on the back panel).
