Gonna go buy a new mp3 player

Any suggestions on a mp3 player that works very well on linux and is a great mp3 player for a reasonable price. I have a rio nitrus at the moment and for the life of me I cannot get it to work with slackware 10. I did a cat /proc/bus/usb/devices and this is the output i got.

Dunno if that helps cuz linux seems to recognize it somewhat. Anyhow any suggestions on a new mp3 player would be great or even better to get my rio nitrus to work and save me some $$$$$$...

Try this how to first:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1256766,00.asp

Most USB mp3 players simply show up as usb flash drives, you mount them and copy the mp3s over. just have to make sure there are no software sytems files/folders that you can't delete, that depends on the mp3 player you have.

If you installed Slack 10 full all you will need to do is the edits to the fstab and make the mount directory.

As root or su type "fdisk -l /dev/sd[a-z]". This should give some information where the mp3 player is located. Though it might show up with multiple partitions.

I would recommend an iRiver as they are feature packed at very reasonable prices. Moreover, many of them are firmware upgradeable so if the manufacturer finds bugs or adds features you just download them to your player!

I have the iRiver H120, but there are loads of them. I use mine with Linux (SuSE 9.1) and Windows and it works no problem as it uses a FAT32 file system and just mounts as a USB hard drive.

Check out

http://www.iriver.com/index.asp

or

http://www.mp3players.co.uk/site/uk/ihp.html

for reviews.

You didn't mention if you want a hard drive player or flash. Either way, I'm sure you'll find one to suit your needs. They all work well with Linux

Good luck,
Dave
