GLX/Xfree86/DRI/nvidia geforce 4 mx 420 problem
I have a dual 1.4 processors AMD Running the nvidia geforce4 mx 420 with the smp kernel for redhat 9.0 stock. The kernel is 2.4.x.x??smp. X is XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.3.0-2)
I have employed the nvidia drivers NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run successfully. I did insmod for nvidia driver Here is the error message printed in the X log: Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! I checked the directory and the file libdri.a is not there. According to xfree86's website 4.3 comes stock with those drm/dri files. Ultimately I discovered this when trying to run quake 2 ------- Loading ref_glx.so ------- ref_gl version: GL 0.01 R_SetMode() - CDS not allowed with this driver Initializing OpenGL display ...setting mode 3: 640 480 Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". qkHack: Error couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered, Depth visual ref_gl::R_SetMode() - invalid mode Initializing OpenGL display ...setting mode 3: 640 480 Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". qkHack: Error couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered, Depth visual ref_gl::R_SetMode() - could not revert to safe mode ref_gl::R_Init() - could not R_SetMode() I did not get this far until I installed the nvidia drivers. I consider myself an extreme newbie to X and Graphics although I do know my way around linux. I am trying to migrate completely away from anything to do with linux. I will be happy to provide you with any additional information. I also saw where another individual with a Radeon was getting similar messages. |
Insmod? Dri?... libdri.a?...
When you went to get and download this driver, I'd assume you got it from www.nvidia.com. Just above the driver, is a file called "README" And, just inside that file. (sec-02) INSTALLING THE NVIDIA DRIVER. It tells you everything you have to type/edit/do to get nvidia drivers working in linux. How about you go back to www.nvidia.com. Actually make a tiny effort, and read the readme files and line by line installation procedure? |
I suppose I should have received some flames. It was the xconfig stated in the readme file. I had had so many problems getting the drivers to load that it actually crashed x before. None the less, I express my gratitude. :D

hay - i installed my nvidia drivers perfectly and i get the same error too - but i think it is more related to my second voodoo3 screen card running with a second screen !
so he is not the only one !! |
