Gigabyte GeForce GT 610 Ubuntu compatibilty
Hello,
I want to get a Geforce gt 610 and I was wondering if it is Linux Compatible. Does it work well with Ubuntu 12.04 which I will be using? Thanks for the help. -Phantom |
I have gotten an answer from Quidsup on Youtube and I will post it here,

GT 610 is just a rebranded GT 520.
GT 520 will run with the nVidia drivers in 12.04 without the hassle and minor risk of adding PPAs. |
Not out of the box you need to download the drivers i.e. NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.53 which are readily available online [http://www.nvidia.com/content/Driver...&type=GeForce] BUT the installation of the drivers is (for me) the hard part. If you know what you're doing it's easy but I'm relatively new to Linux so I have my new GEFORCE GT-610 Graphics Card sitting in it's box and the drivers sitting in their folder but that's as far as I have progressed.
It's times like this that I miss MS Windows but I won't give up. Eventually I'll find a tutorial that's written with newbies in mind. That's the problem with anything like Linux, those who are experienced have forgotten what it's like to be new to it all and they either leave out crucial steps in the process or they use jargon which is useless to a newbie. I use Ubuntu 12.04 and it's great except for times like this. |

A lot of Linux tutorials are very straight forward and easy to understand. However there are some that are intended for advanced users. If you are posting on a forum, just make sure to include that you are a newbie. |
