geting a cd drive to work?

I have a couple of sound and vid drivers on a cd that need instalation, but i just can't seem to be able to open them. When i get to the cdrom directory there's nothing there. The cd doesn't spin up, it just sits there. Is it possible that the cd drive needs drivers itself?

Is the driver mounted??

Try at shell:

mount /mnt/cdrom

then go to that folder and see if something is there.

this error comes back:

cdrom: open failed
mount: no medium found

It seems it's looking to mount the cd itself, but what would that solve? Should i let it do it?

You need to mount the CD before you can read the files on it.

And unmount it before removing the CD.

Ok. So you create a direcotry /mnt/cdrom although there should already be one Then run:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
and if it's ok then you should be able to view the files on the cdrom but if an error occures then post it up here and we'll see what to do next Hope this helps!
