Plugin the cardreader with a media card inserted and type the command and see what the command ' dmesg ' says.
Also you post output of
lsmod
lsusb
cat /proc/scsi/scsi

What kind of card reader is it? Single card type or excepts multi types of cards?

If no other USB, Firewire, Scsi devices exist then it will more than likely be /dev/sda and the first partition if any exist will be /dev/sda1. Do an advanced search for cardreader and brian1 as a user. There are some mention issues with multislot readers. I do not know if debian default kernels support multilun support.
