I am trying to test out Gentoo to see if I want to replace my current Mandrake partition. However, I am running VMWare from WinXP.

When I start to run Gentoo (2004.1 by the way), I get it to boot the livecd to the root prompt. However, it already tells me that it can't find a network card. I've tried Bridged Networking and NAT in VMWare setup both to the same result. The Gentoo docs mention looking through /lib/modules/kernel/drivers/net but I didn't see any VM* files in there.

I imagine I have to get a VMWare driver from somewhere for the virtual NIC card they make available to the Guest OS. However I couldn't find anything about that when searching the Internet.

Are there any good tutorials out there for this sort of thing? I'm fairly new to Linux and to VMWare, so excuse me if this is a stupid question with an easy answer (which would actually be a relief).
