Genius Sound Maker 5.1 - Kubuntu Crashes!

Recently I installed a pci Genius Sound Maker 5.1 sound card. As I expected, kubuntu regonized it and the sound is working just fine. But I have one serious problem: When I change the volumelevel (with alsamixer, kMixer, volume settings of xmms, etc.)Kubuntu hangs up. I donīt really know what is happening. Any idea?
I donīt have right now the lspci and lsmod data, I will post it soon.

Please help!

Kubuntu, kernell 2.6
The chipset of the sound card is cm8378
