is the geforce FX 5500 video card compatable with redhat linux shrike. if not is there a program i can use to change to my onboard video card, i cannot see anything after boot if that helps?

GeForce FX 5550 is compatible with Linux. RedHat Linux 9 (Shrike) is a bit old though. You should really consider moving to never distributions like Fedora: http://fedora.redhat.com.
You could always try to install drivers for your nVIDIA card. Get the drivers from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-8756.html.
The installation is pretty easy and there are good docs about how to install the drivers. If that fails, you probably need to upgrade.
