GeForce 4 440 mx TV-out works but fuzzy looking

I've searched and found many threads about GeForce4 tv-out problems, but i haven't been able to find any problem similar to this one.

distro = Mandrake 9.1
kernel = 2.4.21
card = GeForce4 440 mx agp

i've tried using nvtv but it doesn't support my card. I also downloaded and in stalled yanc and this seemed to help it work. The only problem is that when the display on my tv comes up its blurry/fuzzy and you can see bars passing along the horizontal.

I'm also using an S-video to composite converter. i'm not sure if thats the problem or not. maybe someone else has had a problem of the same sort.

my XF86Config-4 Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce4 (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "DPMS"
Option "NvAGP" "3"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768;800x600,800x600;600x480"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"
Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"
Option "NoLogo" "1"
Option "TwinView" "1"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "TVOverScan" "0.6"
Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"

You have to set the resolution properly for the TV. I think it's "720 x 482". Besides, unless you have a monitor that can support the same resolution as your main monitor, the second monitor will "always" be messed up. If you want "TwinView", then the resolution has to be the same for both. If you want to use just the TV, keep your monitor connected and plug in the S-video. Change the XF86Config file and get rid of "twinview" and all the resolutions for the monitor except for "720 x 482". Leave refresh the same and add these lines - Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV" and Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO".

When it's setup up like this, you will only be able to use your monitor until the X-Server starts. Then it will switch to your TV.

##Example##

Identifier "device1"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce4 (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NvAGP" "3"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"
Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"
Option "MetaModes" "720x482"
Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"
EndSection
.

Thanks but that didn't seem to work. I did what you said but still had the same problem with the fuzzy screen and seethrough vertical horizontal and diagonal lines moving around like they own the place.

could it be possible that the type of tv/vcr is causing this problem?

Possibly yes. When i did it, i was using RH9 and Geforce MX440 64 meg with S-video going into my camcorder. After X booted, i could only see the picture on my little camcorder screen but i found that if you set the resolution right, you won't get any wonky screen issues.

Try going lower....like 320x280 ......I THINK - u'll have to check on that value. If that doesn't work, try setting the Horizontal refresh to a lower value. Are you still going for "TwinView" or just TV-Out?

I'd rather twinview but if I can only get just TV-out i'll use that.
I tried a different VCR and the output was dramatically worse. I couldn't make out anything. As of now I think XF86config-4 if configured properly, I just need to test another TV or VCR.
If not it's back to reading and posting.

Thanks for trying
