GE Webcam issue

Im having some issues with a webcam. I can access it from Kopete under devices but the output is horrible. Color is way off and image is un bearable. I just set up Suse 10.1 and have not done anything else so Im sure its a driver issue of some sort. Im not sure on the model. There are no model numbers on it. Its shaped like a ball on a u shaped stand and is white and blue in color. The only marking on it is a GE on the base. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a desk top program for controlling webcams available?

There are several ways to get info about your webcam. Check the output of commands 'lsusb' and 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices'. Also try unplugging it, plugging it back in and checking the last few lines of the output of the 'dmesg' command.

If you have a working driver the camera you get low-level access to the camera through the video4linux interface (v4l). There are plenty of apps which you can then use. Try searching for 'webcam' on www.freshmeat.net.

There are plenty of cheap and bodgy webcams out there, so best not to expect too much.
