GDM/Slackware Mouse Problem

Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 (was a gift, otherwise wouldn't be microsoft)
Distro: Slack 9.1.0
Problem: My scroll button doesn't work! and I *can* live without it, but is there anyway I can fix this?

Viewing the documentation on getting the Microsoft Intellimouse may help. The scroll wheels work the same on both (I have an MS optical mouse w/ scroll, too).

search "scroll mouse linux" in Google. Follow some of the links. I think it boils down to adding the following to your XFree86config file (/etc/XFree86config), in the "Pointer" section:

Protocol "imps/2"

and remove the other corresponding lines. Or something like that.

Got this from http://www.usalug.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1439&

Quote:
You need to open the XF86Config file with a text editor like Kate in order to change it.

Code:
Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
