Gateway Solo 2500.

see i have this laptop for a while.
then i decide to install red hat linux 9.0 on it as a file server. since window always crushes.
so everything goes fine.
However, i can't get my hard drive to work in dma mode which was the important thing if you are running it as a file server.

every time i boot, it says something like,

[U]hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0X22
hda: dma_timer_expiry: status=0X58 {DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest}

hda: irq timeout: status = 0Xd0 { Busy }

What's the matter here?

dma is a good thing , butttt its not all that important cause most of the time you only get a couple of megs per second quicker.

also what level dma are u using, and if i remember the solo 2500 is an older laptop, so it might not support the use of dma

but do you have any other idea how to make it go faster?
Is there a patch or something?

well give me the specs on it , and maybe i can come up with something . You might be able to compile some programs with optimizations just for your style processor. Also install
linux kernel 2.6.1 has alot of advantages , utilizing memory and what not a lot nicer.
