Gateway EV700 CRT Monitor and Ubuntu Linux

I've tried installing Ubuntu Linux, 6.06 and the just 1 hour ago released 6.10, and neither of them work properly with my Gateway EV700 CRT monitor. I've manually edited the HorizSync and Vertrefresh values to match ones that I know work, and even tried it with different video cards, and every time I get a blue screen telling me that X has crashed because "Screens were detected but none of them had a usable configuration". Could someone please help me out?

Edit: If you would like to read my ubuntuforums.org post, which is slightly longer, it is located at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=284468
