Unhappy Game Surround Fortissimo II install pb

Hi there!

I'm running Mandrake 10.0 (output of 'uname -r' is '2.6.3-4mdksecure') with a Guillemot Game Surround Fortissimo II which actually worked for some time. I then tried to get Linux to save the card settings using 'alsactl' and somehow at the next boot no sound ("device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)"). So I tried to uninstall Alsa just by removing the various directories as I couldn't find a 'uninstall' anywhere and after reinstalling I couldn't even open alsamixer ('function snd_ctl_open failed for default'). The 'modprobe' command isn't working either ('modprobe snd-cs46xx' sends back 'Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter'). Help please!

Here's the output of /sbin/lspci (only the two relevant lines):

00:07.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
00:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01)

When I run 'dmesg' I got lots of lines such as:
snd-cs46xx: disagrees about version of symbol snd_rawmidi_new
snd-cs46xx: Unknown symbol snd_rawmidi_new

Charly.

OK, so here goes: I actually managed to restore the sound settings... The problem was that as I successively install/uninstall Alsa, my configuration was somewhat f****d up... So what I did was simply shove the Mandrake installation CD back in the drive & update my installation...

For those who have a similar problem, I suggest looking at:
http://alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc...&module=cs46xx
(the Alsa page)
and search through this forum (allthough everytime I found someone with a problem similar to mine, no one had bothered replying...)

Cheers,

Deimos.
