I am using Fedora 6....my / partition on the LVM which has used almost 100% of its space so i am trying to extend the LVM..i gone through the steps to extend that but what is command to format the free space which is been extend in that LV.
I have tried ext2online,resize_reiserfs and xfs_growfs but all come with error: command not found...can someone tell me how to do this.
All depends on what your file system is. Looking in /etc/fstab should get you the file system type for the mount point. Are you attempting to run these commands as root? Non root users may not have a path defined for /sbin where these programs are often located.
Extending the LV/filesystem should be as easy as:
# lvextend -L+5G
# resize_reiserfs /dev/vg1/home

Is / the only Partition in the Logical Volume. If the entire LVM is to small is there addition space on the drive you can use? If so create another LVM and then using the lvm tools to combine the / and the new partition generated inside the LVM. I don't use lvm so not sure of the commands. Just familiar with the concept. There is a gui tool in the start menu that should be able to help.
