All depends on what your file system is. Looking in /etc/fstab should get you the file system type for the mount point. Are you attempting to run these commands as root? Non root users may not have a path defined for /sbin where these programs are often located.

Extending the LV/filesystem should be as easy as:
# lvextend -L+5G
# resize_reiserfs /dev/vg1/home

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried this but it says command not found....the file system in /etc/fstab is ext3..I am doing this under root user.

This is the output i get :

[root@localhost /]# resize_reiserfs /dev/test/lv1
-bash: resize_reiserfs: command not found

where test is VG and LV1 is logical volume.

It looks like the command to resize ext3 partitions is: /sbin/resize2fs

Is / the only Partition in the Logical Volume. If the entire LVM is to small is there addition space on the drive you can use? If so create another LVM and then using the lvm tools to combine the / and the new partition generated inside the LVM. I don't use lvm so not sure of the commands. Just familiar with the concept. There is a gui tool in the start menu that should be able to help.
