Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Freeze on hibernation about every 4th try

I finally got suspend-to-disk working on my Thinkpad T23, both using APM and ACPI (boy, I'm good...)

However, I have a little wierdness using either setup...when about every 4th hibernation, the system freezes when I invoke it. It doesn't matter if I'm using APM or ACPI, nor if I invoke using the console command, klaptop (only works under ACPI), or the Fn + F12 keyboard shortcut (only works under APM).

Any idea why this might be happening?

I'm running MEPIS with kernel 2.6.7.

I'm just bumping this...easy to get lost here. This is really frustrating, so I'd like an answer if anyone knows of one.

Hello elempoimen,

Are you using software suspend? Maybe try to use a newer kernel?

I used to have similar problem with my X40, it was Slackware 10 with 2.6.7 kernel.

I had tried a lot of thing but the problem persist. Finally I download 2.6.9 and patch it with software suspend 2 and problem solved.

Good advice. ProMEPIS is about to come out with 2.6.9...maybe I'll wait. I'm hesitant to start messing with the kernel, as this is my production system and I really can't deal with downtime. I suspect it has to do with a device...maybe sound? I noticed this morning that after I resumed, I tried to play frozen bubble and it wouldn't start. So, I started the game from the console to catch the error, and it had to do with not being able initialize ALSA. I disabled sound and then the game ran, but when I tried to hibernate afterwards, it froze again.

To clarify, ACPI is using software suspend. APM is using BIOS suspend. I can do either. I prefer software because it's about 4x as fast...plus I get better battery life with ACPI. However, I have the same problem either way.
