framebuffer on an ATI 128 Rage Pro


Hi,

So I'm currently doing some coding on a friend's computer and have decided to setup a nice big framebuffer'ed console and go easy on my eyes. The video card in question is a ATI 128 Rage Pro and I thought it'd be a simple setup. I compiled the proper ATI framebuffer support into kernel, and added a vga=790 parameter to my grub kernel boot line, but alas no video mode or vga=### I try can get the console to be anything but 256 colors on the lowest (400x300?) resolution. What's the deal? Has anyone encoutnered anything similar with the ATI card? The box is a dell dimension 4300 series, but I assume the ATI video chip is pretty standard. After some more frustrating trial and error I disabled the ATI framebuffer support and went with VESA which worked without a hitch in my desired resolution and color depth. I think I'll stick with this.
