floppy drive B:

my PC BIOS has only drive A: as an option. I read somewhere that linux can access the floppy controller directly and, in some cases, work with two drives even though BIOS has only one. Is that true? Has someone made it work with drive B:?

Linux does not use the BIOS calls to access devices, so it will work even if not supported by the BIOS. However, ISA devices can't be enumerated in the same way that PCI devices can, so the floppy drives would probably have to be at the standard address and interrupt settings unless you want to do some kernel hacking.

if you have two then you should see
fd0 and fd1
but
Modern OS's do not even look for 3.5 in drives any longer
you have to add a "modprobe floppy" to the bootline
IF the kernel you are using even still has it built into it

RHEL6 needs "modprobe floppy" ran to mount my 3.5 in drive
