flash-type mp3player formating

using Ubuntu desktop ltd Ver.?.??.??

mp3player type - philips gogear 1gb

so the problem is that my player just one day got frozen when I turned it on..(just shows philips logo and hangs on)

the last time this happened I formatted it in winxp with a lot of effort..

in linux when I try to plug it in it just shows "cant mount device dev/sdb/"

I already tried formating it with gparted but it isnt possible because I'am not able to choose "format" from menu....

is there are any other way that I can format it using gparted or another app. I would realy aprecciate if someone could help me with this problem

P.S. sorry for my bad english..

You first need to unmount the device before you can choose format.
