flash mp3 player & read only

hello,
all of a sudden i cant delete tracks from my usb flash mp3 player, xp wont even recognise the drive now, and although linux will mount and list the drive, when i attempt to delete any tracks i get this error 'cannot remove * read only filesystem', anyone know why it would change and how to correct this? i have been writing to the drive occasionally for 6 months, and i can still play the music that is already on the player.

You could copy the files to your harddisk, format the mp3 player, check for bad sectors and put back the files on it.
