First attempt today -- Dell D630 + Docking station PRO1x
 

Can anyone point me to some help please.

I've connected up my dell D630 laptop to a dell PRO1x docking station (PA-10 power supply) and via DVI-d to my Dell UltraSharp U2312HM - 23"

ubuntu 10.04 gnome.

1. networking port working OK
2. screen appears on laptop and monitor simultaneously. OK

Q. how to turn off laptop screen. nvida 135 [I used Fn + F8 in windows]
Q. how to make image on monitor full screen.

(((BTW sort of working with ubuntu 12.04 but flaky, as soon as I start typing monitor goes off and laptop screen comes on?)))

Other question will surely follow but these are the basics I guess.

On my laptop it has a button that is used to switch to external monitor. It's blue & used in combination with Fn-key.

Thanks, yes that is the normal way with the d630 (it works seamlessly with windows xp)

With ubuntu 12.04 it 'nearly works" as I said the specified key combination does what it should.... but with v.12.04 as soon as I start typing the laptop screen kicks in and the external monitor goes blank. ( but thinking about it I haven't tried it via vga. only dvi)

My preferred version is ubuntu 10.04 and thats the kiddie I want to get working (again I must try tomorrow the vga connection.)
