Hi, Try right clicking the desktop, and select properties (or configure desktop in kde), you may have an applet there to change the res.

ps, you may be able to set the xorg settings with...
xorgconfig in a shell as root (admin).
You will need to know your mouse and kb as well as the graphics and monitor, usually the defaults work for most people and equipment. GW
