Im using Ubuntu 6.06 and ive tried installing fglrx by the directions shown here http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...apper_Manually

and the install runs fine with no errors. after i restart my computer i get a black screen where i would normally log on. ive had this problem in fedora core 5, suse 10.1, and mandriva free. ive got an ati radeon xpress 200m and im using the 64bit versions of all distros except for fedora because the livna repos dont support 64 bit and fglrx. any help?

ive finally solved the problem. apparently if you have an ati radeon xpress 200m card you need to use the 8.24.8 driver instead of the most recent. this can be found by surfing on the site. also you need to enable UMA video memory in your BIOS. then follow step 2 from the above link and it will work fine. just substitue 8.24.8 where you see 8.29.6. to check to see if it works use the command "fglrxinfo" and to see if you have direct rendering use "glxinfo | grep direct". getting the s video out to work is something else though. i have to tinker around.

My Express200 is working fine with 8.28.8 on both 32 and 64 bit OSes
