Unhappy (solved sort of) fedora core 5 & linksys wmp54gr wireless card

I have been looking for threads that would help me get my new linksys card up and running, but have found no help or have run into roadblocks when trying different things in the console.

I have tried to use 'ifconfig' and 'iwconfig' and 'lspci' to no avail. It keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize that command or something of that nature. Is there something that I need to install for these commands to work??

So far my wireless card is dead in the water. I have a wired network card running.

I can't even find out what chipset I have on this new wireless card to find out what drivers I need!! There must be a way to find this out in the console somehow, right??

I have tried to add a new wireless device through the network GUI but it doesn't have anything close to what I think I need as far as devices.I think I need rt2500 drivers, but I am not sure. I have downloaded ndiswrapper.tar and rt2500-1.1.0-b4.tar, but like I said, I try to do installs and I keep running into problems once I get to the install part of it. Can anyone help me here? Do I need to post this in the wireless section of networking??

Thanks for the help in advance.

Not any help there

I downloaded the latest kernel, because that is what I had found somewhere. Just to install a wireless card????

Anywho, here is what I am getting so far. (Hour 6)!

Trying to install the new kernel (2.6.18-1.2257.fc5-i686)

as root I am typing in "make install /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-1.2257.fc5-i686" This is the directory that the new kernel is in.

The error I am getting logged in as root is

"make: *** No rule to make target 'install'. Stop."

I am also getting this error when I try to do a make on ndiswrapper. Here is what I am getting, evidently I do not have the newest kernel installed properly or at all for that matter.

"make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/loren/Desktop/
ndiswrapper-1.33/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.15-1.2054_FC5/Build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/loren/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.33/driver'
make:*** [all]Error 2

Should this be that hard?? Why is wireless so unnatural for Linux???
