Fedora Core 4 How Much RAM?
How much ram do i need i only go 64MB will a swap help?
|
64MB is fine... as long as you don't intend to use KDE or Gnome. No, really, 64 is a little short, but it can be done. You'll have to use a 'light' desktop manager to get a system which will respond though. Swap does help (is absolutely necessary in your case), but doesn't rspond as fast as RAM.
In order to run KDE or Gnome comfortably you're looking at 265MB, and as always, the more the better :) |

Is there any other linux OSs excluding Ubuntu that will work for me? i know xp will run even with 64MB so why not linux?

Will Slackware work? and do i need to upgrade my Processor to make it any faster or is it just my ram? i got Kubuntu running fine at once. it will not hurt to just to try out fedora core.

i'd check out vector - it is based on slackware. It is meant for low end machines.
http://www.vectorlinux.com/ here is a link with the system requirements: ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distribu...l#requirements How old is this computer? You'll be able to get something to "work" on it i imagine but it isn't going to perform fantastic at all i wouldn't imagine. What do you use the computer for now? What do you plan on using it for? Obviously you won't be able to play games on it or anything. If you just need it for browsing the internet and typing documents you might be fine. I forgot to look at your other specs. I wouldn't upgrade the ram. I wouldn't put any money into it. I'd look into getting a new computer. You can get reasonable priced desktops with much better specs then that. |
Thanks,All
