Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Fedora 10: Is Intel GME965 using the wrong DRM module (i915)?

Fedora 10
2.6.27.9-159.fc10.i686
lspci, xorg.conf, etc. at the end of this post

Hi,

I'm following the directions at
http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DriTroubleshooting
because I suspect OpenGL is being rendered in software instead of hardware.

$ dmesg | grep agp
Linux agpgart interface v0.103
agpgart-intel 0000:00:00.0: Intel 965GME/GLE Chipset
agpgart-intel 0000:00:00.0: detected 7676K stolen memory
agpgart-intel 0000:00:00.0: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0xd0000000

$ dmesg | grep drm
[drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 on minor 0

As you can see, i915 is selected...? It also shows up here:
$ lsmod
Module Size Used by
i915 53508 2
drm 158260 3 i915

The site says: "If you get DRM version output but not your card-specific DRM version output, you may not have a supported card, or it may not be getting probed due to the PCI ID being missing from the driver.
If you are using current DRM sources and your card should be supported by an existing driver but isn't, please submit a report to http://bugs.freedesktop.org/ with the output of scanpci"

I'm not sure this is a bug yet, plus it looks like no one watches that list much, so I'm posting here first.

Is the intel driver supposed to be loading i915? As you can see from glxinfo, the i965_dri library is being loaded properly... shouldn't the DRM module have the same name?

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.

It seems that Fedora 10 doesn't provide a xorg.conf file any more, so I installed system-config-display so it would generate one. As you can see, I added some stuff based on searching other people's posts. Nothing has changed the performance. In fact, the stuff commented out actually hurt performance with glxgears.
