FC4 and Win XP dual boot Sata drives and Raid

Asus K8V SE Deluxe
AMD 64 3000+
1 Maxtor 160gb IDE (hda)
2 WD 200gb SATA (sda & sdb)

Ok Here is what I have been up to. I have my WinXP on my Maxtor. I installed FC3 on my WD. I was messing around with a server so I RAID1-ed it. Worked fine. I want my full space now, so I attempted to switch to RAID0 when I installed FC4. This resulted in a hanging GRUB_ . Then I tried to use the LVM, same problem. Then I tried treating them as separate disks entirely, still nothing. The only way it will work is with RAID1. I also tried only hardware RAID, and only Software RAID to no avail.

All I want is to be able to but FC4 on my WDs and have 400gb, and dual boot with my WinXP.

Oh yeah, the K8V SE comes with an onboard Promise 20378 RAID controller

Have you tried reinstalling Grub?

Whenever grub doesn't seem to be working, try reinstalling it. When you make a major change to the disk structure, it is not uncommon to need to reinstall grub.

Look at the Grub Manual section on installing grub natively ( http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/man...-GRUB-natively ) and try reinstalling grub to the MBR. The results from the native grub “find” command often make it obvious why the system isn't booting.

Regarding Raid0, /boot cannot be in a Raid0. /boot needs to either be in a regular partition or in a Raid1, which looks like a regular partition to grub.
