Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

faulty power supply

I installed the F22 alpha yesterday morning (March 25) and I have experienced a problem which I have reported on the bugzilla. The problem basically revolves around the screen locking up hence keyboard is not available.

I think I have only cleanly rebooted this release one time and never since the problems started (after installation I updated and got a new kernel). I thought a clean cycle would be good. When I did a shutdownreboot it looked like the computer never actually shutdown. I didn't hear the usual click and it didn't reboot just sat there. When I went to power up again, no response. I hit the reboot button and that kicked things into action.

I was wondering whether it is my (3 years old) power supply which is causing the problem. Is there anyway I can test the PSU? I had a look at the journal which throws out plenty of power related messages but none of them seem to indicate a problem.

EDIT and so the obvious thing to do is to try a reboot with the original kernel and this works fine. I'll report that back to the developers. Maybe a kernel issue. I am still interested though if there is a way to check the power supply

Hi...

I would be more inclined to think this is a kernel/OS issue, since this problem started immediately after your upgrade, although I wouldn't totally rule the PSU out.

One of the more reliable ways to test a PSU, in my opinion, is to use a tester like the one found here. I have an older version of this tester and it's always worked without a hitch in the years I've had it.

EDIT: This one is cheaper and in stock...

Regards...

There are ways to test it, but you posted what the problem is while asking your question.

First, you loaded F22 ALPHA....alpha releases aren't stable at all, so things like the smart power-supply control items may not have been ported/rewritten/fixed or even TOUCHED at this point. When you load an alpha release, you need to fully expect such things. A three-year-old power supply isn't that old, so it's doubtful you're having an actual PSU issue. Personally, I'd never load an alpha (or even beta) release, unless there was some new, cutting-edge feature that I absolutely had to have to function or do my job. It's just not worth the trouble.

Yes, but again, there is no need. You say yourself that the original system works fine, new one doesn't. The problem follows the software, so there is no reason to suspect the hardware.
