Fail to mount a path in SAN

I have newly setup the LUN in EMC server, the below is the output of "powermt display dev=all" ,

Pseudo name=emcpowera
CLARiiON ID=CK2000686974684 [A 1]
Logical device ID=60060107543275B1180064B21FTWZ50DCDB11 [LUN 1]
state=alive; policy=CLAROpt; priority=0; queued-IOs=0
Owner: default=SP A, current=SP A

It seems normal , but when I try to mount it , it pop the messages , can advise what is wrong in my setting ? thx

mount -t ext3 /dev/emcpowera1 /emc1
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/emcpowera1,
or too many mounted file systems
(could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)

"wrong fstype" - Have you in fact run mkfs on the device? The LUN as presented by PowerPath doesn't have filesystem on it until you put one there with mkfs (linux) or newfs (UNIX).

In fact you could use it as a raw device. Here we actually have 3 raw devices and 4 filesystems (OCFS) for our Oracle RAC install using Clariion devices presented by PowerPath and NaviAgent.

thx reply ,

I have mount it already , one more question , how can I format the file system ? thx

If it is not a filesystem then you haven't "mounted" it. The message you got indicates it couldn't be mounted on the attempt you made.

If it IS mounted you should be able to see it with:
df -h

My post earlier was suggesting that you had not yet "formatted it as a filesystem" as you put it.

The command to do that is mkfs. You can specify filesystem type with the "-t" option (e.g. -t ext3).

"man mkfs" will give you more detail on how to use the mkfs command. The "device" this will talk about is /dev/emcpowera.
