Hi,

I recently bought an external CD/DVD writer (Sony) brand new. I switch it on and linux detects it fine. In fact, KDE even automounts it and I can read CDs and DVDs fine as well.

However, writing is another issue... neither cCDRoast or K3B works (I use the Fedora Core 2 internal rpm for K3B by the way), so I'm wondering if there's something else I should try.

The drive works beautifully under Windoze, I might add. Thanks for your help in advance...

I'm using FC2, not RH9 as my profile will indicate... I will change it now.

What kinds of error messages are you getting? Are you using good quality media? In your fstab file, have you specified that it gets mounted as Read-Only? -- J.W.

See if you can write disks as root. If you can it's a permissions problem. I had a similar problem with my scanner and had to change the permissions on it to be able to use it.

I'm not on a Linux system at the moment, but xCDRoast detected the writer, and gave me Error 500 (I believe). I'm not on a Linux system right now (Windoze at work, unfortunately), but will double check.

The Error 500 was given by the cdrecord command. I tried to burn as root, but the same error occured. As a non-root user, K3b wouldn't even begin to start writing...

I'll check the /etc/fstab and see what it says.
