External USB Card needed
I'm looking for a Linux compatible card to replace my Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit external because first of all it doesn't have native 44.1kHz support and just doesn't get along with alsa sound usb drivers.
I've heard that Terratec's Aureon 5.1 USB MKII is a good externel usb card which supports 5.1 surround sound. What would you guys suggest? |
Not doing sound over usb.

Look the short answer is that trying to run sound (or Ethernet) with a device over a cable can be done, but will almost always be inferior to the "native" way of doing it(as you have already seen). Getting things done(and working to your satisfaction) over usb/firewire/etc is almost always far more work than it is worth. See if you can find a pcimia card. Other than that you would probably be better off switching laptops for one with built in decent sound.
