Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

External SATA Drive Readers

Has anyone ever had any experience with external SATA drive readers? It's basically a dock that connects to your PC via E-SATA or USB 2.0 & allows you to hot plug a SATA drive to your PC and read / write data. I found something like this

It looks like something I am looking for exactly but since I use Linux, I don't know how it will work on my OS as drivers don't really apply to me. Has anyone ever used anything like this?

If you plug it in the eSATA port it should behave like just another SATA device, if you plug it into an USB port it should behave like just another USB device. AFAIK just like any other HD in an external USB-enabled enclosure.

So you're saying that if I connect the device via E-SATA, then when I plug in a SATA drive, I will need to reboot my machine just as if I connected an internal SATA drive and if I connect the dock via USB, then it should be hot pluggable, right?
