Unhappy external hd transfert usb 2 freeze kernel

I recently bought an external drive for my laptop and soon as i decided to transfer files to make backup on my external drive i noticed the transfer speed was slow but WORKING.
So after little while i understood that usb 2 module ehci-hcd wasn't load in kernel....not a problem after an insmod ehci-hcd it worked theoriticaly:
mounting the drive not a problem mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/tmp
but transfering files here we go.....small files transfer really fast but at a certain point the progress bar in mc stops responding then after few seconds the mouse stop responding and not a single key press is possible to make an action:KERNEL FREEZE
is there any reason for that ?
PLEASE HELP!
