External Firewire or USB 2.0 ?

I'm considering buying an external cabinet for a 40gig drive I have.

What should I choose, Firewire or USB 2.0, any brands I should
stay away from? I'm going to use it on an old PII 433Mhz notebook.
Should this be taken into consideration?
Which one is less CPU intensive?

I would guess that firewire is less CPU intensive since it really is serial SCSI.
Firewire is designed to run without a central controlling CPU like USB require.
