Excessive CPU usage with AMD SB750 Southbridge when copying files.

I am using a 790FX chipset with SB750 southbridge and running Mandriva 2010.0. The sata controller is running in AHCI mode with several harddisks attached.

The problem I am having is that everytime I copy files from harddisk to harddisk or harddisk to usb flash drive, CPU usage goes to 100%.

Could there be a problem with the ahci driver in this kernel version, something related to disk cache, or something simple I am overlooking?

I would really appreciate any ideas?

It may be simply that the scheduler is allocating 100% of cpu time because it's available. Have you tried running other tasks at the same time as the copy operation, just to see what impact that has on cpu usage?
