Ok well I just recently decided to try out Linux, and just went with RedHat 7.3 because we happend to have it laying around. Since RedHat 7.3 isn't really new, it doesn't have recent Ethernet cards in the Network Configurator(where I would add the Ethernet Card), so it doesn't have mine. My card is a 3COM 3C940, but the most recent sounding one on the list is the 3Com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx980.
How do I make it so that RedHat will be able to use my Ethernet card? The main reason for this being such a pain is because I share my internet access over my ethernet, and want to be able to dl and share files over my network.
Thanx for any help. And sorry if this was already posted at some point but I did a search and didnt turn up anything, and this is just really bugging me....
Oh and sorry I didn't mention this... the reason I don't just get 8.0 or even another distro is because I am on 56k and would not even want to imagine the time it would take to get the download completed
EDIT: Ok well here is some more info also in case it wil help to solve the problem. I am running kernel 2.4.18-3amp(does that sound right
) and when I type lspci at the command line, across from the ethernet controller thing it says:"Unknown device 1700(rev 12)"
Thanx again
