Hi All,
I acquired a PC and can't get the Ethernet connection to work.
Machine:
* Two (Dual) AMD Athlon MP 2800 CPUs w/ 512k/cache (Barton)
* Tyan Tiger S2466 Motherboard, with 4XAGP, 2 64bit PCI slots, and 4 32bit PCI slots
I tried the Mepis 3.3 live CD and no Ethernet connection. Running dmesg said the eth0 failed during boot. ifconfig says the only IP address is the internal one, none assigned by DCHP.
The network jumper cable and port work fine on other computers so the network is live up to the motherboard.
Any clues how to proceed? Tyan and AMD are know for playing well with Linux so I think with some help I can get this going.
Thanks
hs
Problem solved.
Turns out it was an intermitant problem with a jumper cable in the LAN. Wiggling things finally isolated the problem.
Thanks heltreko for your help.
