Ethernet controller disabled?

Hi,

I installed Knoppix 3.7 on a Gericom Supersonic GPRS. There are different problems, but the most important one is this:

The network adapter (which is running well when I work with the Windows XP partition, so it can't be broken) is "disabled". Knoppix infocenter (lspci) gives following report:

Ethernet controller: Accton Technology Corporation EN-1216 Ethernet Adapter (rev 11)
Subsystem: Accton Technology Corporation EN2242 10/100 Ethernet Mini-PCI Card

I/O ports at <unassigned> [disabled]

What can I do to inable the device? Can ports be controlled and assigned manually? Pleasae give detailed answers. I don't know anything about Linux.

What happens if you issue

Code:

ifconfig eth0 up

or

Code:

ifup eth0

as root (via su)? What is the output?

ifconfig eth0 up returns:

eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no device found

ifup eth0 returns:

ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0

what happens.I think the driver for your card is tulip knoppix should have found it.That is a laptop right.Give us all the info you can.The whole story how you connect to the net,etc.

Now I know why the network adapter does not work. Though I do not know what to do:

Another Problem is: ACPI does not work. It works with Windows, but Linux freeces after about 10 minutes. So I must turn pci off during boot. If acpi is on the network adapter does work. If I turn pci off, network adapter does not work.

So ...?
