I realise this may sound stupid, but I am having difficulty understanding Ethernet. Presently, I have a Conexant PCI ADSL modem which Linux hates, along with most unfortunates who are trying to get it to work.
So, what about my internal Ethernet on my motherboard? Could this possibly be any use to me in getting online?
you have cable or adsl and a modem which supports ethernet
you link to a router which then links to the net
you are on a network which at some point links to the 'net
If you dial up, I would suggest an external modem - from other posts on this board they are easier to set up (and they are a bit faster - internal modems tend to use the pc for some stuff, external modems are 'self sufficient')
Yeah, that was one of the first places I tried too. Also looked at Lordy's Guide and some other guys. Problem is, they all seem to have different distro's/versions so its difficult to say what could be the problem. Thanks though.
