ethernet adapter found and works, wifi not found not work

My computer, HP Pavilion p7-1512, has an ethernet cable adapter and a WiFi adapter. Under Win8 the cable connection is used if the cable is plugged in and the WiFi is used otherwise, without user action. Under Linux the cable interface works but the WiFi adapter, Ralink RT5390R, is not recognized. My question is this: How do I force the system to recognize the WiFi interface?

Hi,

You could use ifplugd to sense the cable being plug in;
Quote:
ifplugd <- 'ifplugd is a Linux daemon which will automatically configure your ethernet device when a cable is plugged in and automatically unconfigure it if the cable is pulled. This is useful on laptops with onboard network adapters, since it will only configure the interface when a cable is really connected. ifplugd interfaces with your distribution's native network configuration utilities.'
Look at;

Hope this helps.

I have no experience with RALink (Broadcom has been my tormenter), but this link might help:
