Error message when accesing MP4 player

I have an i.Meizu PMP, when I hotplug the player it does not always mount and when it does I receive an error message saying
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
As a result i cannot view or add any files to the player.
I have booted into windows an it works fine there.
Any help appreciated.

I have just found that if I remove the 2GB mini SD card the player mounts occasionally and i can read the 2GB built in flash memory. But after a few minutes the media dissapears.

When I connect with the mini SD inserted, these are the var/log/messages

If I connect without the SD card inserted, this happens. Device mounts then unmounts.

looks to me like they're in need of a new linux compatible mbr, but that's just me.

I bought a similar item - an ebay cheapie and experienced the same.

Assuming you have udev....

I am using SuSe10.2:

cd /etc/udev/rules.d

and edit a rule set (in my case 05-udev-early.rules)

I entered:

BUS=="scsi", SYSFS{vendor}=="RockChip", RUN+="/bin/sh -c '/bin/echo 128 > /sys/block/%k/device/max_sectors'"

(wisdom sourced from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...dev/+bug/61235)

Now - not a problem !

Good Luck

And while I was trying to get the toy to work, I experimented with many many options with mencoder to get mp4 conversion.

mencoder input.mp4 -ofps 24 -vf-add scale=224:176 -vf-add expand=224:176:-1:-1:1 -srate 44100 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=550:max_bframes=0:quant_type=h263:me_quality=4 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=128 -o output.avi

I took a at the windows .ini settings from the driver CD, it looks like the converter application is a GUI wrapper for mencoder...
