Epson Stylus D88 Photo Edition

Hi, I've been given an Epson Stylus D88 Photo Edition as a present and I can't configure it with Suse 10.0, I've also had no luck using Knoppix 4.

The printer is a fairly new model and is not mentioned in Yast. I tried configuring the printer as an Epson New Stylus Photo Series as this seemed like the closet thing. When I try to print the test page the paper is fed through the printer and nothing gets printed.

The following is the dmesg output when the printer is plugged in
Code:

usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 5 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04B8 pid 0x0005

lsusb outputs:
Code:

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 04b8:0005 Seiko Epson Corp. Stylus Printer
I read at
http://www.linuxprinting.org/ppd-doc.html that the Windows drivers from the install cd can be used by unzipping the .exe file to get the PPD file. However when I tried this got loads of files but none had a .ppd extension.

Please can anyone help me or is it just a case of waiting and hoping that epson release the drivers

Thanks in advance

I'm reviving this pretty old topic because I have this Epson Stylus D88 printer and I can't make it work with Mandriva 2006. :(
I searched around the web and found this place: http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/index.html where they have a driver that, according to what they say, works with C87, C88 and D88. I installed the driver for CUPS and followed the instructions in the readme to install the printer... everything looks fine except for the fact that it doesn't print!! >_< Nothing happens at all. I tried to look at Kjobviewer and I've seen that all the jobs sent to the printer get interrupted... the IPP report says this:

Any clues?
I never had to configure a printer so I don't know exactly what it's needed to solve the problem, sorry... if you need the output of some command or some log file, or whatever ask and I'll see.

I was supplied a D88 when I ordered a C86. In an attempt to avoid going through the hassle of returning it, I tried the Stylus Photo Printing System but without success, so in desperation I installed the printer as a plain C80 (the nearest-looking driver I could find), and it works fine! I'm using CUPS on Mandriva 2005LE, BTW

Thanks very much. I tried what you suggested, installing the D88 as a C80 and it works perfectly. I had previously tried using this tactic of installing it as another printer but I didn't know which one to choose, the most I got was a few noises from the printer but no actual output.

Thanks again for the help

I tried with c84 driver and works fine too...
