Epson Stylus C60 will not print

I've installed the printer and cups is recognizing it, but it will not print. The driver I'm using is CUPS+Gimp-Print v4.2.7. The one time it almost worked, I hit "Print test page" at localhost:631, and it spit out a piece of paper - even this doesn't happen anymore.
When I unplug it and plug it back in, this happens in dmesg:
Code:
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -71 reading printer status
usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 3
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: error -108 reading printer status
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 4
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 4 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04B8 pid 0x0005
INPUT packet died: IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:0d:56:2a:52:f4:00:05:74:f5:54:54:08:00 SRC=222.189.38.22 DST=24.160.179.48 LEN=503 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=45 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=42347 DPT=1026 LEN=483
The device it is set to use is /dev/usb/lp0, and this does exist. Trying ot write directly to it results in this:
Code:
sh-3.00# echo "Hello world" > /dev/usb/lp0
sh: /dev/usb/lp0: Device or resource busy
sh-3.00#
Any ideas?

Epson

If everything else fails, I would suggest trying selecting different Epon printers or even changing distro.

I have an Epson Stylus CX3200 working on Xandros and MEPIS.

The toner cartridge is the same as for C62, so I would think they share a lot. Tried selecting C62?

"Tried selecting C62?"

I just tried that, gives the same result.
I wonder if the problem does not come from the usb hardware of the motherboard (I read that they might be some problems with via usb controllers which I have, and this motherboard is pretty old, 1999).

Has someone make work an Epson C60 (or C62) with the usb connection and with Mandriva LE2005 or 2006 ?

By the way, this problem appeared with the Mandriva LE 2005, the printer worked good before with the Mandrake 10.0.
