I have Hp Compaq ML350 G3 server having 1 GB RAM,2x18.2 GB Hot swapable HDD. Also I have Epson Prefection 3170 Photo scanner.

The Os installed on the above server is "RHEL 4 (Nahant). Kernel version : 2.6.9-5.Elsmp on i686.

I want to install the scanner. What should i hv. to do ?

I hv. changed the files as follows and tried but failed.

changed the file /etc/sane.d/epson.conf. In this file the statement "SCSI Epson" is commented by me and the second change is appeded this file with the statement "usb /dev/usb/scanner0"


After this rebooted the machine and after logging as "root" I tried the iscan. But the iscan is giving me error as :
"Could not send command to scanner
Check the scanner's status".


Kindly guide me.

Got the same scanner working under Slackware and Debian.
Did you install iscan-2.2.0-1.c2.i386.rpm and iscan-plugin-gt-9400-1.0.0-1.c2.i386.rpm?
This should give you /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf.
Edit this file and check for epkowa in dll.conf.
Hope this will help.
Oh, BTW may be you need to install another version of the iscan files reflecting your version of gcc.
