Angry Epox ep--8kda3+ ubuntu 7.10 install failure

I have tried to install Kubuntu 7.10 from dvd on this system: ep-8kda3+, 1gb ddr, geforce fx5200. I get "udevd-event[2314]: run_program: 'sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit.
I tried "noapic nolapic" and the same.
Same with other distros.

Anyone any idea?

BTW, I tested the ram, it works fine, I i didn't use SATA or RAID

There's posts on the ubuntu forums of people successfully installing versions as old as 6.06 on that motherboard so must be a hardware problem with your specific system? They did mention checking that the bios was up to date first...

Well, I also did some digging on my own

I got hold of most other distros available. Fedora, Knoppix and *buntu won't work, but:

Opensuse, DSL and Puppy (all latest stable releases) work just fine.

So my conclusion is that if there is a problem, then I guess it's not on my side
I like using *buntu for the ease of use and great software and documentation support, but it seems that on this particular machine I have to use Opensuse.

Anyway, I'm going still to try some more live distros and post here news as I have them.

BTW, Debian ETCH v 4.01 also works, but when I upgrade to lenny or sid, it freezes during bootup.

There's something strange either with my MB, or with this new Debian-Based distros, and I can't figure it out.
