How do I now get a linux driver and install this piece of hard ware? I did search but only could find a very old post saying this USB adapter is compatible nothing more.

Hi, some more info about your adapter is necessary. please post the output of lsusb when the adapter is connected. A quick google search turned up this. Is your adapter on there?

Thank you for your quick reply
I think what you want is this; ENUWI-G
By the way I am re-installing ubuntu 10.04lts but it seems to be taking for ever and I keep getting error messages about this and that appelet not working properly.
Now I just got a new message; " sorry the program "ubiquity" closed unexpectedly blah blah blah.
I have never heard the hard drive clicking and burping so much.

This is either because you have a noisy hardrive, or that its about to fail. check its S.M.A.R.T health.

as for your wifi, this should be your adapter. A quick search revealed absolutely no linux drivers, so I suggest you use ndiswrapper for the time being. It wraps around the windows driver to make it work under linux. the documentation is quite good.
