enable or use SPDIF on a AC97

I have a SuSE 8.2, and a AC97 Realtek ALT650 audio device. The MB
allows for the SPDIF output, on the windows platform it works but on the
Linux it does not. It autodetects some intel800x?? hardware but that module
has no option for enabling the SPDIF output. Does anyone have a clue?

Question also having trouble with ac97 driver and spdif
I am also having trouble with my ac97 audio playing trhough SPDIF. Any ideas?
