Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

EIDE to SATA Hard Drive

I am currently building our images on Dell Optiplex 170L's without a problem. We shipped an image to a customer who is using Dell Optiplex 520's. After the Gost session the customer is getting a message:

"Unable to mount root on 00"

Are they getting this problem because the Dell's we use, 170L's, have EIDE hard drives and the Dell's the customer is using, Dell 520L's, have SATA hard drives? Also, is there a quick fix for this problem?

Thanks,

Wade

More than likely it is in the grub.conf and fstab later in the boot.. Since on and IDE you are using /dev/hda* for partitioning. On sata it is like scsi, the drives are /dev/sda*. Modify entrys in grub.conf, /etc/fstab, and /etc/mtab should take care of it. Changing hda * to sda* should do it. Since not mention a distro release, this based on Redhat/FC distros and similiar. If using lilo do the same run lilo to take effect.

Hope this helps.
