Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Angry EIDE HD Issues

Alright everyone, this is a somewhat hard to describe question, but i am going to try anyways. I just purchased a new computer, all seperate parts, and put them together. I am trying to install slack, and i am aware of the entire process, i have sdone it many times. my problem is with my HD. I ordered a Western Digital 80 gig drive from a company called upgrade-solutions in Cali. I have the drive for like a week and a half, and had slack successfully installed. Then all of the sudden the drive started making these really weird noises when i booted the computer. it sounded like a mechanical problem, inside the drive, it was not the normal low hum of the HD spinning. It almost sounded like a clicking sound, the drive would try to spin and then it would turn off, and then try agani and then off, etc., etc. an it would do this constantly, so that is how i figured it was hardware.

So i send the drive back, and they sent me a new one n a sealed bag, which i got yesterday. I unwrap it , open my case and install the drive. I boot up and there it is again!!! the same sound, its a loud click! click!....click! click!....and so on and so forth. This is starting to piss me off now. Does anyone know what this might be, i mean i cant reallly describe it to you, i might have to try to record it if needed, but i figure that in the hardware forum, someone will have an idea, hopefully.

Should i just send it back again, and buy a drive from somewhere else??? should i try to get someone to look at it who is more experienced?? i mean its brand new out of a sealed bag, i just dont get it!!

thanks for your help though....

Geoff

Actually it came with my case, it was included....and i just read it and it says this......

350 Watt House Brand p3, p4/AMD up to 1.4GHz (approved)

Alright that takes care of that, but now i have another question, I have an AMD 2100+ does that mean that i am messing up my CPU cause the power supply only supports a 1.4 gig???

I guess if it is messing things up, next time i should do some more research before i am so quick to assume that things are just going to be compatible. I guess that these types of things are like when you get lost in a car, then next time you know exactly where you are when you are lost...
